Exclusive

The cascina is gay men only. To ensure exclusivity for our guests we created just three large suites, a swimming pool and jacuzzi.

Amazing views

We look out onto the beautiful Monferrato Hills (a Unesco World Heritage Site). On a clear day you can even see the Alps!

Quiet and private

We are conveniently located close to villages, shops and restaurants, but we are also located in a quiet and private spot.

Large suites

Each suite and private seating area is 56m2 and has an en-suite bathroom. Your private seating area looks out onto the Monferrato Hills and Alps.

Large swimming pool

Our large swimming pool is clothing optional and has a shallow end. Around the pool is plenty of space to relax and enjoy the sun or shade. Pool towels are included.

Jacuzzi

Our Jacuzzi is nested in a private spot surrounded by green, overlooking the hills, hilltop villages and Alps. A perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy the hot water massage.

During our holidays we would discuss the idea of a gay men only guesthouse. A place where guys like us can be themselves. Where small caring gestures between men don’t raise eyebrows.

We both feel a holiday is about letting go. Relaxing and enjoying yourself. That could be reading a book, sunbathing, cooling down in our pool or being lazy in the shade.

Ultimately we hope that you feel you are amongst friends. A place where you go to relax and recharge. We aim to be a place that feels natural, a home away from home.

We are here to make your holiday unforgettable…

John

After working in healthcare in The Netherlands for 40+ years I decided to make the jump and do something completely different in beautiful Italy, start a gay men only guesthouse.

I love the fresh morning air, the humming of bumblebees in our lavender fields, a cooling summer breeze, the sound of birds, the smell of rosemary throughout the garden, the amazing views. Life is simply wonderful.

Besides enjoying taking good care of others I am a passionate hobby cook, I like to experiment with baking and I love a bit of gardening. In my free time I enjoy reading books and watching all kinds of documentaries and series.

Martijn

After studying Information Technology in Utrecht I worked for international firms like CGI and IBM before going freelance. Then we had this crazy idea to turn our lives upsidedown completely.

I love all things technology, architecture, interior, landscape and design. Drawing up house plans and garden designs is fun and I enjoy designing websites very much. Oh, and once started, I love some serious DIY too.

Besides maintaining the house and garden I enjoy infotainment, building websites, flying my drone, making photo’s and films of nature, some skiing and city trips. Found my soulmate and love of my life, John, and really enjoy living our Italian life together.

Practical things

Are there any supermarkets/shops nearby?

Yes. There are three supermarkets in our village Montegrosso d’Asti at 5 minutes by car. Larger commercial centers are 15 minutes by car in Asti, Canelli, Nizza Monferrato and Isola d’Asti.

Europe’s largest shopping outlet “Serravalle” is only 50 minutes by car.

How do I pay for things in Italy?

In Italy you can pay with debit and credit cards in (almost) all shops, bars and restaurants. You can also get cash from an ATM machine (Banca Intesa Sanpaolo) in our village Montegrosso d’Asti at 5 minutes by car.

Can I recharge my electric car?

Yes. There are two recharge points for electric cars in our village Montegrosso d’Asti at 5 minutes by car.

Can I bring my dog (or other pet)?

Unfortunately no. Although we love animals (we have cats), we cannot have your pet stay with us.

Food and drink

Are bars and restaurants nearby?

Yes. Our village has bars and restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy a lunch, dinner or aperitivo. Nearby villages have plenty of other nice restaurants.

Asti, a larger city with many shops, bars and restaurants, is only 15 minutes by car. Please check the “Where to eat” page for more details.

Can we have dinner at Cascina GianTino?

Yes. You can use our dinner service, depending on availability and on dietary considerations, for example, we have no vegan options. Just ask for available options during your stay.

Can I participate in a winetasting?

Absolutely. There are many wine producers in the area that organise a wine tasting for us. Depending on participation you can also have a special winetasting at Cascina GianTino. Just ask for available options during your stay.

What about self catering?

Although there are no meal preparation facilities in your suite, you can use our outdoor kitchen (depending on availability). Just check with us first.

The outdoor kitchen can be used to prepare a simple meal on the BBQ or, for example, a fresh salad. All we ask is that you leave the outdoor kitchen as clean as you found it.

Alternatively, on request, you can use our dinner service or go out to one of the many restaurants in the area. If you need help with a reservation, just ask.

Things to do

Are there things to do / places to visit?

Certainly! Piemonte has lots to do and see. We are located in Monferrato, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Beautiful vineyards with winding roads and picturesque villages.

The people of Piemonte are known for their hospitality and love of “la dolce vita”. In summer, a “food&wine” event is celebrated almost every week in a different village. The many wineries are happy to give you a tour of their wineries.

Do you have a swimming pool?

Yes we have. Our clothing optional pool is 12m x 4m with amazing views onto the Monferrato Hills. On a clear day you may even see the Alps.

The pool is large enough for a swim an has a shallow area, great for relaxing and sunbathing. It is not heated and therefor closed in the colder months.

The water in the pool is lightly salted and filtered daily. The salt in the water is converted into natural chlorine by electrolysis. The result is crystal clear water using less chlorine. No more dry skin and sore eyes.

How far is the beach?

The Ligurian Coast with it’s many beatiful villages and beaches is only 90 minutes by car. Enjoy a beautiful drive, spend the day at the beach and have lunch/dinner in one of the many seafood restaurants.

Language and culture

What languages are spoken in Piemonte?

The main language is of course Italian. In most shops, restaurants and tourist attractions English is spoken. French and German are not very common here.

What about Italians and their coffee?

At breakfast, italians drink a cappuccino, macchiato, americano or cafè (espresso). They drink this because they want a filling drink with their croissant or brioche.

After 11:00 no more cappuccino, italians usually drink a cafè whilst standing at a bar. And after dinner they have a cafè to aid digestion.

What time is dinner time?

In Italy the time to have dinner is different from what most people in the north are used to. The further south you go, the later it is.

When you enter a restaurant at six o’clock you will probably find it empty. In some cases, the kitchen is still closed! This is because between five and six is aperitivo time. Therefor Italians usually have dinner between eight and ten o’clock.
